About Metro South Volunteers:
Metro South Volunteers supports adult learners through a network of caring volunteers dedicated to promoting literacy. As advocates of lifelong learning, we provide both students and volunteers with learning opportunities.
Metro South Volunteers play a vital role in helping adult learners enrolled in Metro South Adult Basic Education. Since 1979 Metro South has served the communities of Bloomington, Richfield, Edina, and Eden Prairie by providing educational opportunities to nearly 2,000 adults annually. Volunteers have helped thousands of students prepare for the GED test, earn a high school diploma, or learn English as a second language.
Your Commitment Pays Big Dividends:
As a volunteer, you will provide direct service to people. Volunteers are asked to be dependable, patient, flexible, and sensitive to the adult learner. A sense of humor comes in handy, too! Since we serve a diverse population of learners, you’ll have the unique opportunity to see the world through another’s eyes. You are asked to commit to 1-2 hours per week for most placements. We ask that you commit to six months with Metro South, as this best serves the volunteering relationship and educational goals of the learner. However, a number of short-term placements are also available. For your generous commitment of time, you can help someone master the skills necessary for survival in today’s increasingly complex world. By sharing your talents and your positive attitude toward learning, you can experience the joy of helping others realize their personal potential and work toward their educational goals.
